A woman's hands shuffle a tarot deck, while a tarot spread lays in front of her on a blue plaid blanket.

July conjures images of lounging on the cottage dock with a cold beverage and hot sunscreen-slathered skin, cannonballing into a cool lake while holding hands with your friend [who hopefully jumps with you and doesn’t abandon you at the end of the sprint — it’s happened], running through a sprinkler while wet grass clings to your bare feet, the feeling of your arm muscles straining as you pull yourself from the pool for one more star jump…

It’s humid, hot and full of endless sunshine if you grew up in Canada like me. Nowadays in Scotland, the wetness sometimes derives from a sun shower or the sea haar rolling in. I know for my friends in the Southern Hemisphere, the depths of their Winter season brings about snow and heavy clouds.

The theme of water is pronounced with Cancer season leading into Leo towards the end of the month. To pause before we leap to the fire of August, let’s float through some hydrating and life-affirming journaling prompts.

Grab your pen and favourite journal…

And don’t forget to light your favourite candle (or lather on some more sunscreen if you’re sitting on the beach); take a few deep and intentional breaths; connect with your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies; and, allow the ritual of this practice to feel as nourishing as possible.
